Maabjerg CHP Plant

Maabjerg CHP Plant

Maabjerg CHP Plant is a multi-fired CHP plant that generates electricity and district heating, covering the electricity requirements of 40,000 households and the district heating requirements of 20,000 households.

Maabjerg CHP Plant is based on environmentally safe incineration. It consists of two waste boilers and a straw/chip component.

Waste and residual waste sludge are burned on the plant’s two waste lines, while straw, chips and other biofuels are burned on the straw/chip line. Natural gas is also burned.

The Plant has an installed capacity of 28 MW of electricity and a maximum district heat output of 77 MJ/s.

In 2006 the plant generated 146 GWh of electricity and 1,597 TJ of district heat from 165,172 tons of waste, 64,480 tons of biofuels and 3 million Nm3 of natural gas.

Visitors will get an on-site guided tour of the plant and get an in-dept introduction to incineration technology.
